from extracts of the Government of Assam advertisement and from several portal reports: the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan (CMAAA) Society is recruiting 256 Chief Minister’s Fellows for a 24-month fellowship. Online applications opened at 12:00 noon on 1 November 2026 and close on 14 November 2026. Still pending: the shortlist, group discussion and interview dates. We could not open the full advertisement PDF, so the qualification, closing date and selection stages are as reported by portals.
What this is, and what it is not
Portals call this a recruitment, and the advertisement is titled Recruitment of Chief Minister’s Fellows. But the post is a fellowship, not a regular government job. The advertisement describes a 24-month engagement. Fellows are placed across Assam, where they will mentor beneficiaries in developing their ideas into viable enterprises, work closely with the Government of Assam and its senior leadership, and gain practical experience in programme management.
The scheme sits under the Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprise Department. The fellowship is meant to bring the energy and knowledge of self-driven young professionals into CMAAA, the state’s entrepreneurship promotion programme.
If you are comparing this with a state commission exam, the comparison breaks down quickly. There is no written test, no pay scale in the usual sense, and, in the sources we found, no mention of a regular post at the end.

The 256 fellows, the remuneration, the 24-month term, the joining date, the portal and the opening time appear in the extracts of the advertisement itself. The rest comes from portal reports of it.
Vacancies and what fellows do
There are 256 fellowships, all under one title, so there is no post-wise or category-wise split to study. The advertisement adds that the number may change according to the requirements of the CMAAA Society, so treat 256 as the current figure and not a guarantee.
One portal, which is the only source for these details, says fellows will work with the CMAAA Society and the District Industries and Commerce Centres, coordinate with District Commissioners and other government departments, and be evaluated every six months against key performance indicators. We have not confirmed that from the advertisement.
What we can’t tell is how the 256 are distributed across Assam, or whether candidates can state a district preference. The reports say only that fellows will be placed across Assam. Apply on the assumption that you may be posted anywhere in the state and that you may not get to choose.
Important dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Applications open | 1 November 2026, 12:00 noon IST |
| Last date to apply | 14 November 2026, 11:59 PM |
| Shortlisting, group discussion, interview | Not announced |
| Expected joining | December 2026 |
The window is 14 days. As of today, you have 11 days left.
The gap between the closing date and the expected joining is the tighter constraint. Between 14 November and some date in December, the Society has to shortlist applicants, hold group discussions and interviews, make offers and let selected candidates join. That is a matter of weeks. This is our inference from the stated dates, not a published schedule. If you apply, keep your November and December free for a call-up at short notice, and settle any notice period at your current employer in advance.
Education qualification
Portals report that candidates must hold one of the following from a reputed university or institution:
- an MBA or an MBA-equivalent qualification, or
- a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Policy or Development Studies, with at least 60 percent marks or an equivalent CGPA.
Two points need care.
Does the 60 percent apply to the MBA? The portal reading attaches the 60 percent to the Master’s degree route. Whether an MBA also needs it is not clear from the summaries. Check the advertisement’s wording.
What counts as Social Sciences? The summaries don’t list the subjects. Economics, sociology, political science and similar degrees are the obvious candidates, but the advertisement may define the term differently. If your Master’s is in an adjacent field, don’t assume it qualifies.
We also don’t know whether final-year students can apply, whether work experience is required, or whether the cut-off date for having the degree is the closing date. The sources don’t say. If any of these affects you, read the advertisement or contact the Society before you spend time on the form.
Age limit
Two portals, FreeJobAlert and Assam Job Seeker, state that the advertisement does not specify a minimum age, a maximum age or an age-relaxation schedule. That is unusual for a government fellowship, so check the PDF to be sure.
Don’t confuse this with the Maharashtra Chief Minister Fellowship, which is a separate programme that appears in search results. It has its own conditions, including an age band of 21 to 26 and a requirement for graduation with 60 percent. None of those conditions comes from the Assam advertisement.
Remuneration
The advertisement gives annual figures:
| Year | Annual remuneration | Of which travel | Excluding travel |
|---|---|---|---|
| First | Rs. 6,00,000 | Rs. 96,000 | Rs. 5,04,000 |
| Second | Rs. 6,60,000 | Rs. 1,08,000 | Rs. 5,52,000 |
Breaking those down (our arithmetic):
- Per month, including the travel component: Rs. 50,000 in year one and Rs. 55,000 in year two.
- Per month, excluding the travel component: Rs. 42,000 in year one and Rs. 46,000 in year two.
- Over 24 months, the total is Rs. 12,60,000 including travel.
- The year-two figure is 10 percent higher than year one.
- Travel makes up about 16 percent of each year’s amount.
The gap between the headline and the monthly figure matters. A “6 lakh package” reads like a salary, but a sixth of it is a travel allowance. Whether the travel amount is paid as a fixed sum or reimbursed against actual travel is not stated in the sources we found. Deductions such as tax are not described either.
The advertisement also says that on successful completion of the fellowship, fellows receive a CMAAA-CM Fellow citation and certificate signed by the Chief Minister. The fellowship is meant to offer opportunities to build professional networks and gain hands-on experience.
Selection process
Portals report three stages:
- Shortlisting of applications against the required qualifications and eligibility conditions.
- A group discussion.
- A personal interview.
The advertisement says shortlisted candidates will be called. There is no written examination in the reports, so there is no syllabus, exam pattern, answer key or cut-off to prepare for. The group discussion and interview formats, the weightage between them and the venues are not described.
With 256 fellowships, no age limit and a postgraduate qualification as the only hurdle, the applicant pool is likely to be large. That is our expectation, not a reported number. It means the shortlisting step does a lot of work, and your application’s content is what gets you into the room. State the programme-relevant work you have done in concrete terms: enterprise support, field work, project management, data work or community programmes.
How to apply online
Applications go through the official site, https://cmaaa.assam.gov.in. Portals add that the advertisement is also hosted on Assam’s Niyukti portal at niyukti.assam.gov.in, and one lists the application page there as well.
- Open cmaaa.assam.gov.in and find the announcement titled Recruitment of 256 Chief Minister’s Fellows.
- Read the full advertisement, especially the eligibility section.
- Open the application link under the announcement, or the Niyukti application page, and register.
- Enter your personal and educational details.
- Upload the documents the form asks for.
- Submit before 11:59 PM on 14 November and save the confirmation.
Both addresses are Assam government domains. Reach them from the official site, not from a message forwarded to you.
Documents to keep ready
The sources don’t list the upload requirements, so use this as a checklist and confirm it against the form:
- Master’s or MBA degree certificate and mark sheets, showing the 60 percent or CGPA where it applies
- A CGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate if your university grades by CGPA
- Proof of identity and date of birth
- A current CV
- Photograph and signature in the format requested
- Any work, project or programme experience letters you wish to cite
The sources don’t mention an application fee. Check the form.
Mistakes to avoid
The expensive ones are applying on an assumption about the qualification and leaving the form to the last day. A candidate with a Master’s in an adjacent field who assumes it counts as Social Sciences gains nothing from applying if the advertisement draws the line differently.
The quieter ones: treating the Rs. 6 lakh as a monthly salary figure, ignoring the possibility of a posting far from home, and giving a vague CV. The group discussion and interview will be run by people who know the programme, and a candidate who can’t describe a specific enterprise or community problem they have worked on will struggle.
Verification and safety
The application is online, and no fee is mentioned in the reports. Don’t pay anyone to “book a fellowship” or to improve your shortlisting chances. If you receive a message claiming to be from the Society, check the sender against the contact details on cmaaa.assam.gov.in. The Society’s address, as listed in the advertisement, is the Chief Executive Officer, CMAAA Society, Udyog Bhawan, Bamunimaidam, Guwahati.
What happens next
After 14 November, the Society will shortlist applicants and call them for the group discussion and interview. Selected candidates are expected to join in December 2026 and to undergo an initial orientation, per the advertisement. Check the email address and phone number you register with, because the call-up will arrive there.
