3. Post-Wise Vacancy & Pay Scale

General / Rest-of-State (R.P.C.) Cadre — 576 Posts

Post Pay Scale (₹) Posts
Warder (Vikshakaru) 37,500 – 76,100 560
Second Grade Teacher / Instructor Grade-II 37,500 – 76,100 16

Kalyana Karnataka (K.K.) Cadre — 293 Posts

Post Pay Scale (₹) Posts
Jailor 61,300 – 1,12,900 5
Warder (Vikshakaru) 37,500 – 76,100 275
Second Grade Teacher / Instructor Grade-II 37,500 – 76,100 8
Warder-cum-Nursing 34,100 – 67,600 5

Notice that the Jailor post — the highest pay band by a wide margin — is only open under the Kalyana Karnataka cadre, and just 5 seats. If you’re eligible for K.K. cadre and hold a Bachelor’s degree, this is worth prioritizing over the far more common Warder posts, though competition for those 5 seats will naturally be intense.

4. Eligibility & Educational Qualification

Post Minimum Qualification
Jailor (K.K. cadre only) Bachelor’s Degree; preference given to Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, or Correctional Administration graduates
Warder (Vikshakaru) SSLC (10th) pass or equivalent
2nd Grade Teacher / Instructor Grade-II SSLC pass AND a Diploma/Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Carpentry, Tailoring, Textile, Weaving, or Carpet-making from a government-recognised institute
Warder-cum-Nursing (K.K. cadre only) SSLC pass AND a First Aid certificate

A detail candidates often overlook: for the Instructor and Warder-cum-Nursing posts, a higher qualification does not substitute for the specifically prescribed diploma or certificate. A B.Tech holder, for instance, cannot apply for the Instructor post without the actual trade diploma named in the notification — the qualification has to match exactly, not just exceed the bar.

5. Kannada Language Requirement — Who Needs the Test

If you studied Kannada as a first or second language in SSLC (or studied entirely in Kannada medium), you’re exempt from a separate language test. Everyone else must clear a KEA-conducted Kannada Language Test after selection, or their appointment simply won’t be finalised.

The qualifying bar here is specific and easy to miss: candidates who didn’t study Kannada as their first language subject must score at least 50 out of 150 in this test. It’s not a token formality — treat it as seriously as the main written exam if it applies to you.

6. Age Limit

Category Age Limit (as on closing date)
Minimum age — all candidates 20 years
General Merit candidates — maximum 31 years
SC / ST / Category-1 / 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B — maximum 33 years
Ex-Servicemen +3 years relaxation, in addition to actual length of military service rendered

The upper age limit was raised by 5 years under a Government Order dated 29 January 2026, so if you’d previously ruled yourself out based on an older age ceiling, it’s worth rechecking — you may well be eligible now.

7. Application Fee

Category Fee
General Merit & other categories (2A/2B/3A/3B) ₹750
SC / ST / Category-1 / Ex-Servicemen / Third Gender ₹500

Pay online only, through the KEA portal, and note the fee payment deadline runs a day later (16 October) than the form submission deadline (15 October) — don’t confuse the two and assume you have extra time to submit the form itself.

8. Selection Process — Three Real Hurdles

  1. Competitive (Written) Examination — offline, OMR-based
  2. Physical Standard Test (PST) & Endurance Test — shortlisted 1:5 against notified vacancies, based on combined written exam + educational qualification percentage, category-wise
  3. Document Verification
  4. Medical Examination

Unlike some recruitments where the written test alone decides the rank, here you’re shortlisted into the physical round at 5x the vacancy count — meaning roughly 4 out of every 5 candidates who clear the written exam still get eliminated at PST/Endurance stage if they’re not fit. Physical prep genuinely matters as much as exam prep for this one.

9. Written Exam Pattern

Post Level & Subjects Questions/Marks Duration
Jailor Graduate-level GK, Science, Geography, History, Indian Constitution, Freedom Struggle, Current Affairs & Mental Ability 100 / 100 90 minutes
Warder, Instructor, Warder-cum-Nursing SSLC-level GK, Science, Geography, History, Indian Constitution, Freedom Struggle, Current Affairs & Mental Ability 100 / 100 90 minutes

10. Physical Standard Test (PST) Requirements

Category Min. Height Other Standards
Men & Ex-Servicemen 168 cm Chest (unexpanded): min. 86 cm; min. expansion 5 cm
Women & Third Gender 157 cm Min. weight: 46 kg

11. Endurance Test — Clear at Least 3 of 5 Events

Event Men Women / Third Gender / Ex-Servicemen
100 Metre Race 15 seconds 18.5 seconds
High Jump (3 chances) Min. 1.20 m Min. 0.90 m
Long Jump (3 chances) Min. 3.80 m Min. 2.50 m
Shot Put (3 chances) Min. 5.60 m (7.26 kg) Min. 3.75 m (3.63 kg)
Race (800m Men / 200m Women) 2 min 50 sec (800m) 40 sec (200m)

This is a “clear 3 out of 5, not all 5” qualifying bar — so if you’re naturally stronger at throws than sprints, you can afford to focus your training on shot put, long jump, and high jump rather than trying to be equally competitive in every event.

12. Medical Examination Standards

  • Vision: Distant vision 6/9 (better eye), 6/9 or 6/12 (weaker eye); Near vision 0/6 (better eye), 0/8 (weaker eye) — correctable with lenses where specified. Colour blindness, night blindness, or squint disqualifies.
  • Hearing: Rinne’s Test, Weber’s Test, and Vertigo tests — any deficiency disqualifies.
  • Other disqualifiers: Varicose veins, speech impediment, Knock Knees, Flat Foot, Cubitus Valgus/Varus.
  • Chest X-Ray and any further tests the Medical Board deems necessary.

13. How to Apply Online

  1. Visit cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea
  2. Read the full notification for your relevant cadre (R.P.C. or K.K.) carefully
  3. Click the application link for your cadre and fill in personal, educational, and category details

  5. Pay the application fee online
  6. Submit before 15.10.2026 and complete fee payment before 16.10.2026
  7. Download the Hall Ticket closer to the exam date and report to your allotted centre with valid original photo ID

A valid personal email and mobile number are mandatory since every communication, including the admit card, goes out only through the KEA website — and once you hit submit, your entered data cannot be edited, so double-check everything before that final click.

14. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying for Instructor/Warder-cum-Nursing posts with a higher but non-matching qualification instead of the specific diploma/certificate required
  • Overlooking the Kannada Language Test requirement if you didn’t study Kannada as first language
  • Assuming the age limit is still the old ceiling — it was raised by 5 years in January 2026
  • Skipping fee payment on the 16th thinking the 15th deadline covers everything
  • Neglecting endurance-test training until after the written exam result
  • Applying for Jailor post without a genuine Kalyana Karnataka cadre eligibility (it’s K.K.-cadre only)
