Krishna (13) and NTR City (9) carry the heaviest single-district vacancy load, so candidates flexible about posting location may find better odds applying broadly across the coastal and Rayalaseema belts rather than concentrating on one district. Backlog (L.R.) vacancies in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam City, and YSR Kadapa are strictly reserved for local candidates of that revenue district only — don’t apply against these unless you meet that condition.

4. Backlog Vacancies (Category-Wise)

District BC-C ST Total
Srikakulam — 1 1
Visakhapatnam City — 1 1
YSR Kadapa 1 — 1
Total 1 2 3

5. Eligibility Criteria

Gender: Only Men are eligible for Post Code 43.

Requirement Detail
Educational Qualification Must have passed Intermediate or equivalent, as on 1st July 2026
Technical Qualification Must hold a valid Heavy Transport (HMV) Driving License, in force for a minimum of 2 years as on the date of notification
Higher Qualification Candidates with qualifications higher than Intermediate are also eligible, on par with prescribed qualification holders

Note the technical qualification carefully — this is not a generic driving license. It must specifically be a Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV/HMV) license, and it must already be at least 2 years old on the notification date (17-09-2026), not on the date you apply. A license obtained after this cutoff, however valid, will not count.

6. Age Limit & Relaxation

Category Age Limit (as on 1 July 2026)
General Candidates 18 to 30 years (born between 02-07-1996 and 01-07-2008)
Serving Home Guards (eligible category) 18 to 32 years (born between 02-07-1994 and 01-07-2008)
EWS +5 years relaxation
BC (Non-Creamy Layer) / SC / ST +5 years relaxation
A.P. State Government Employees Relaxation equal to length of regular service, up to 5 years (APTRANSCO/Discoms/APGENCO/Corporation/Municipal employees NOT eligible)
Army / Navy / Air Force Personnel +3 years, in addition to length of service rendered
Whole-time NCC Cadet Corps Instructor (min. 6 months service) +3 years, in addition to length of service
Retrenched 1991 Census Dept. Temporary Employees Up to 3 years

Date of birth is accepted strictly from the SSC/Matriculation certificate — horoscopes, affidavits, and municipal birth extracts will not be entertained. Since the online form doesn’t auto-validate age against relaxation category, it’s entirely on you to confirm your own eligibility before applying.

7. Application Fee

Category Fee
OC (incl. EWS) / BC — Local candidates of AP ₹300
SC / ST — Local candidates of AP ₹150
Non-Local Candidates (treated as OC) ₹300

The fee covers the entire process end-to-end — application processing, PMT, PET, Driving Test, and the Written Examination — so there’s no separate exam fee to pay later. Payment is online via Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking; once paid, it is non-refundable even if you fail to hit “submit” on the form.

8. Selection Process — Physical First, Written Test Last

This is the part that sets Driver Operator recruitment apart from typical constable or SI drives — there is no Preliminary Written Test. Your physical fitness and driving skill are tested before you ever pick up a pen.

Stage Test Requirement
1 Certificate Verification Original documents checked in person
2 Physical Measurement Test (PMT) Height: min 167.6 cm (164 cm for Aboriginal ST in notified Agency areas); Chest: min 86.3 cm with 5 cm expansion (83.8 cm for Agency-area ST)
3 Physical Efficiency Test (PET) 1600m (1 mile) run — qualifying, must complete within 10 minutes; no spike shoes allowed; no retest permitted once conducted
4 Driving Test 100 marks across 8 parameters; qualifying nature, minimum 50 marks required; marks not counted in final merit
5 Written Examination (Technical Paper) 100 objective questions, 3 hours, in English/Telugu/Urdu — this alone decides final merit

Here’s the key insight most candidates miss: your Driving Test score doesn’t count toward final merit at all — it’s purely pass/fail at 50/100. The entire final ranking rests on the 100-mark Written Technical Paper. So while you obviously need real driving competence to clear stage 4, your actual rank is won or lost in the technical paper on vehicle mechanism, maintenance, and traffic rules.

9. Driving Test — Marks Breakdown

Parameter Max Marks
Road sense, general driving, vehicle control, steering, judgment 20
Starting on level, up-gradient & down-gradient 10
Gear changing up & down 10
Use of brakes, stopping, parking, reversing 10
Following road/traffic signals 10
Minor repairs & breakdown handling 15
Knowledge of motor vehicle mechanism 15
Knowledge of preventive maintenance 10
Total 100 (Qualifying: 50)

10. Written Examination — Qualifying Marks by Category

Category Minimum Qualifying %
OC (incl. EWS) 40%
BC 35%
SC / ST 30%
Ex-Servicemen As per their respective communal category

Final merit is prepared purely on this 100-mark written score among candidates who’ve already cleared PMT, PET, and the Driving Test. In case of a tie, preference goes to the older candidate — so if you’re on the borderline, don’t assume a tie works in your favor.

11. Written Exam Syllabus (Annexure I)

The technical paper is 100 objective questions covering: driver’s daily/weekly/periodical maintenance routine, battery maintenance & specific gravity, tyre maintenance & rotation, fuel system, ignition system, lighting system, brake system, clutch & transmission, dashboard instruments, minor repairs (fan belt replacement, wheel punctures, air lock removal), BS-VI vs older vehicles, Motor Vehicles Act & Rules, traffic signals, first aid, and safety precautions.

This is a practical, mechanic-adjacent syllabus rather than a general-knowledge one — candidates who’ve actually worked around heavy vehicles or done basic ITI-level automobile study will have a natural edge over those relying purely on rote memorization.

12. Medical & Eyesight Standards

  • Distant Vision: 6/6 both eyes; Near Vision: 0.5 both eyes (Snellen scale)
  • Full field of vision required in each eye
  • Colour blindness, squint, or any morbid eye/lid condition — disqualifying
  • Disqualifying conditions: knocking knees, pigeon chest, flat feet, varicose veins, hammer toes, fractured limbs, decayed teeth, stammering, hard of hearing, abnormal psychological behaviour

Given colour blindness alone is disqualifying for a role built around signals and dashboard instruments, it’s worth getting an eye test done at a civil surgeon before you spend money on the application fee.

13. Reservation & Special Categories

  • Special Representation applies under Rule 22, A.P. State & Subordinate Service Rules, 1996 — covers EWS, BC-A/B/C/D/E, SC (Group-I/II/III), and ST
  • Ex-Servicemen quota: 2%, adjusted horizontally within each candidate’s own communal category
  • EWS eligibility: gross annual family income below ₹8.00 lakh (all income sources combined), certificate issued on/after 01.04.2026
  • BC candidates need a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued on/after 01.04.2026 — failing to produce it at verification means automatic shift to Open Category, with no option to switch back later
  • Local cadre rule: first 5% of direct recruitment posts filled by open merit (local + non-local); remaining 95% filled by local candidates only

14. How to Apply (Once Dates Are Announced)

  1. Visit slprb.ap.gov.in
  2. Pay the prescribed fee online (Credit Card / Debit Card / Net Banking) using Name, DOB, Mobile Number, Community, and SSC Hall Ticket Number
  3. Return to the site to submit the Online Application Form — you must press “Submit” or the application is rejected with no refund
  4. Regularly check slprb.ap.gov.in for PMT/PET/Driving Test schedule and venue — no individual notices are sent

15. Documents to Carry (Original + Attested Xerox) at PMT/PET

  • Study certificates (1st–7th class) or MRO Residence Certificate for local candidature
  • SSC/Matriculation certificate (proof of date of birth)
  • Intermediate qualification certificate
  • Heavy Transport Driving License (original)
  • EWS Certificate (if claiming), issued on/after 01.04.2026
  • BC Community + Non-Creamy Layer Certificate (if claiming), issued on/after 01.04.2026
  • SC/ST Community Certificate (latest, per current sub-classification rules)
  • Home Guard Service Certificate / Ex-Servicemen Certificate, wherever applicable
  • Government employee / defence service certificate, if claiming related age relaxation

16. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying with a driving license held for less than 2 years as on 17-09-2026
  • Assuming the portal will auto-check your age eligibility — it will not
  • Missing the NCL certificate at PMT/PET verification — you cannot switch back to BC category later
  • Applying against Limited Recruitment (backlog) posts without genuine local candidature of that district
  • Ignoring the eyesight and medical standards before applying
  • Waiting for a fixed “last date” — none is announced yet; watch for the separate Press Release
