from several education-portal reports: NPTEL has been releasing July–December 2026 semester results in phases since 29 September 2026, with a further release on 16 October for the September exams. Course-wise updates on 26–28 October are reported by one portal only. There is no single result date, so some courses will still be pending.
What “out” means for NPTEL
NPTEL started releasing the July–December 2026 results in phases, with the first release on 29 September 2026 and a later one on 16 October 2026 for exams held on 19 and 20 September. Another report adds that scorecards can be accessed at nptel.ac.in by entering a roll number or other required login credentials.
Each course gets its result once its exam is evaluated. If your course isn’t on a published sheet, that doesn’t mean you failed. Your course may not have been published yet.

How to check your result
- Go to nptel.ac.in and open the News and Announcements section.
- Pick the July–December 2026 results for the month of your exam, September or October.
- Open the course-wise result sheet.
- Search for your course name with Ctrl + F, using a few words, since names can be written slightly differently.
- For your own scorecard, log in to the NPTEL learner portal with the same email you registered with, and open your course record.
One report says the learner login offers Google sign-in or an email verification code. Check your spam folder if the code doesn’t arrive. Reach the result pages from nptel.ac.in, not from forwarded links.
How the final score works
The scoring rule below is as reported from NPTEL course emails and Careers360. Confirm it on your own course page, because it can vary by course.
- Final score = 25% from assignments plus 75% from the proctored exam.
- The assignment part is reported as the average of your best 8 of 12 assignments.
- To get the certificate you need at least 10 out of 25 in assignments and at least 30 out of 75 in the exam, and a total of at least 40 out of 100.
The total condition adds nothing once the other two are met: 10 plus 30 is already 40. The two part-minimums decide everything. In terms of percentages, you need 40 percent on the assignment average and 40 percent on the exam.
The exam threshold sits exactly on a score of 40. A 40 gives 30.00 out of 75 and passes. A 39 gives 29.25 and fails, however high your assignment score is. Some worked cases (our arithmetic):
| Assignment average | Exam score | Assignment marks (of 25) | Exam marks (of 75) | Total | Certificate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 39 | 25.00 | 29.25 | 54.25 | No |
| 39 | 100 | 9.75 | 75.00 | 84.75 | No |
| 40 | 40 | 10.00 | 30.00 | 40.00 | Yes |
| 70 | 55 | 17.50 | 41.25 | 58.75 | Yes |
The second row shows the same trap the other way round: a perfect exam can’t rescue an assignment average below 40.
Because only your best 8 of 12 assignments count in the reported rule, a few missed assignments are less harmful than a weak exam. Don’t rely on that, since the number counted can differ by course.
Exam fee and certificate
Learning is free. The certification exam is proctored, held at designated centres, and optional. One report gives the exam fee as Rs. 1,000 per exam. The certificate is reported as an e-certificate with your name, photograph and score, and the logos of NPTEL and the IIT concerned, with no hard copy. If the download button is missing on your learner page, your result may not be published yet, or you may not meet the criteria.
If your result isn’t showing
- Your exam was in the later October slots and the result hasn’t been published.
- You are searching the September sheet but wrote in October, or the reverse.
- You are logged in with a different email from the one you registered with.
- The course name on the sheet is spelled differently from what you expect.
If several weeks have passed since your exam, write to NPTEL support using the contact details on nptel.ac.in, and include your course name, exam date and registered email. Use only the contact details on the official site.
Scams to avoid
Fake sites and Telegram groups that promise “marks change” for money are not connected to NPTEL. Never share your verification code or password. The only fee in the process is the exam registration fee.
After the result
Save the scorecard and certificate and check the name and photograph. If your college gives credit for NPTEL courses, submit the certificate under your department’s rules. If you missed the certificate, work out which part fell short, the assignment (10 of 25) or the exam (30 of 75), and plan the next attempt around that.

FAQs
Is the NPTEL July–December 2026 result out? Partly. Results are released in phases per course. The first came on 29 September and a further release on 16 October, with more reported in late October. Your course may not be published yet.
Why is my course missing from the result sheet? NPTEL releases results course by course. Check the sheet for the month of your exam, search with a few words from the course name, and look again in a few days.
I scored 62 in the exam but didn’t get a certificate. Why? The most likely reason is the assignment part. If your assignment score is below 10 out of 25 (an average below 40), you don’t qualify, whatever your exam score. Check the criteria on your course page.
Is a total of 40 enough? Only if both parts also meet their minimums: 10 of 25 in assignments and 30 of 75 in the exam. A total of 40 with one part below its minimum does not qualify.
Where do I download the certificate? On the NPTEL learner portal, with the email you registered with, once your result is published and you meet the criteria.
