|
4. Educational Qualification (Subject Wise)
|
| For almost every subject, the basic pattern is the same: a Post-Graduate (Master’s) degree in the relevant subject from a UGC-recognised university, plus a B.Ed. degree from an NCTE-recognised institution. Here is the subject-wise requirement: |
| Subject |
Required Qualification |
| Hindi |
PG in Hindi with Sanskrit + BA, OR PG + B.Ed. |
| English, Economics, Sociology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Commerce, Psychology, Sanskrit, Urdu, Geography, Music, Military Science |
Post-Graduate degree in the respective subject + B.Ed. (NCTE recognised) |
| History |
PG with Ancient/Medieval/Modern History + B.Ed. |
| Drawing (Chitrakala) |
PG in Drawing & Painting + B.Ed. |
| Education |
PG in Psychology or Education + B.Ed. |
| Home Science |
PG in Home Science, OR B.Sc. (Home Science) + B.Ed. |
| Physical Education |
Graduation + M.P.Ed. |
| Ranjan Kala |
Diploma in Fine Arts (with drawing) from Govt.-recognised art school after High School + B.Ed. |
| Biology (Life Science) |

| Civics |
PG in Political Science + B.Ed. |
| Logic (Tarkshastra) |
PG in Philosophy + B.Ed. |
| Agriculture / Agronomy |
PG in Agriculture Science + B.Ed. |
Important: For every subject, an NCTE-recognised B.Ed. degree is compulsory along with the Post-Graduate qualification. Candidates should check the full subject-wise table in the official notification PDF carefully, as small variations exist for a few subjects like Music and Physical Education.

PGT (Pravakta) is a respected and stable teaching career in UP with a good starting salary, regular pay commission benefits, pension-related schemes as applicable, and long-term job security — which is exactly why competition for this exam is always very high.
|
8. Selection Process – 400 Marks in Total
|
Selection to the Pravakta post will be done on the basis of a merit list prepared out of 400 total marks:
- Written Examination — 360 Marks (based on 120 objective type questions)
- Interview — 40 Marks
Tie-Breaking Rule (very important): If two or more candidates get equal merit, the commission will resolve it in this order:
- First, look at written exam marks
- If written marks are also equal, look at interview marks
- If interview marks are also equal, look at highest percentage in Post-Graduation
- If PG percentage is also equal, look at percentage in B.Ed. (training qualification)
- If everything is equal even after this, the candidate who is older in age will be placed higher
|

OMR Sheet rules to remember:
- Only a black ball point pen is allowed — no gel pen, ink pen, sketch pen, HB pencil or whitener
- Once a circle is filled, it cannot be changed
- Filling more than one circle for a question means zero marks for that question, no evaluation
- Using eraser, blade, nail or whitener on the OMR sheet will cancel that sheet completely
- Fill only the correct bubbles neatly, matching what the scanner machine can read
|
10. Syllabus
|
The detailed subject-wise syllabus for the written exam is published separately by UPESSC and is available for download on the official website www.upessc.up.gov.in. In general terms:
- General Knowledge (30 questions): Current affairs, general science, Indian history, geography, polity, Uttar Pradesh GK, and general reasoning
- Subject Knowledge (90 questions): Postgraduate-level concepts of your chosen subject, based on standard university syllabus
Candidates are strongly advised to download the exact syllabus PDF from the commission’s website before starting preparation, since the syllabus differs for each of the 26 subjects. |
11. How to Apply Online – Step by Step
|
- Visit the official website www.upessc.up.gov.in.
- Complete One Time Registration (OTR) first — this is compulsory before you can apply for any post.
- Use the User Manual (available in Hindi and English) and Tutorial Videos on the website if you face any difficulty.
- Log in and select Advertisement No. 06/2026 (Pravakta/PGT).
- Fill your personal, educational and subject-related details very carefully — category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed after final submission.
- Upload your scanned signature (white background, JPG/JPEG, 10 KB to 200 KB, 140×110 pixel resolution).
- Upload your passport-size photo (JPG/JPEG, 30 KB to 300 KB, 300 to 600 pixel resolution).
- Upload all required certificates in PDF format, each between 50 KB and 500 KB.
- Pay the application fee through Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking.
- Recheck the complete form, accept the declaration, and submit finally.
- Take at least three printouts of the submitted application form and keep them safely — two of these will be needed at the interview stage.
Very Important: The application form must compulsorily be filled in English language only. Also, if a candidate submits more than one application for the same subject and category by mistake, only the last (final) submitted application will be considered valid — all earlier ones will be rejected, and the fee already paid will not be refunded or adjusted.
|
12. Documents Required at Interview Stage
|
Candidates shortlisted for interview must bring two self-attested copies of each of the following:
- Online application form printout
- High School mark sheet and certificate
- Intermediate mark sheet and certificate
- Graduation (1st, 2nd, 3rd year) mark sheets and degree
- B.Ed. mark sheet and degree
- Post-Graduation (1st & 2nd year) mark sheets and degree
- No Objection Certificate (only for candidates already in service)
- Ex-Serviceman discharge certificate (if applicable)
- SC / ST / OBC / EWS / Freedom Fighter Dependent certificate (only for reserved category candidates of UP)
- Disability certificate (only for PwD candidates of UP)
- Affidavit (as per Appendix-6 format on the website)
- Character certificate from the last educational institution attended
- Character certificates from two respectable persons
- Affidavit regarding pending court cases, if any
Please note: Along with the self-attested photocopies, candidates must also bring all original documents for verification at the time of interview. If original documents are not brought, the interview will not be conducted and the candidate alone will be responsible for it. No daily allowance or travelling allowance will be paid for appearing in the written exam or interview.
|
13. Important Rules Every Candidate Must Know
|
- Reservation is only for UP domicile candidates. Reserved category candidates who are not original residents of Uttar Pradesh will be treated as General category.
- Married women candidates — for reserved category certificate purposes, only the caste certificate issued from the father’s side is valid.
- Male candidates are not eligible to apply for teaching posts in girls’ schools — except for Music subject, where a visually impaired male candidate is allowed.
- A visually impaired candidate is not disqualified for the Music subject teaching post.
- Women candidates are eligible for both boys’ and girls’ schools, but must choose only one category (boys or girls) while filling the form for a particular subject.
- Candidates with more than one living spouse (bigamy cases) will not be considered eligible, unless exempted by the Governor.
- Candidates must be mentally and physically fit to perform their duties efficiently. A medical fitness certificate from a Government hospital or Primary Health Centre doctor will be required before final appointment.
- Only one application is valid per subject and category. Multiple submissions will lead to rejection of all except the last one.
- The Commission’s decision on eligibility or ineligibility of any candidate will be final.
|
14. Common Mistakes to Avoid
|
- Filling wrong category, sub-category, date of birth or gender — these cannot be corrected after final submission
- Uploading photo/signature of wrong size or resolution, leading to application rejection
- Uploading certificates in a format other than PDF, or bigger than 500 KB
- Choosing the wrong exam centre district and then appearing at a different centre — this will lead to your answer sheet not being evaluated at all
- Using anything other than a black ball point pen in the OMR sheet
- Submitting the form without carefully reading all eligibility conditions for your chosen subject
- Giving a false declaration in the application — this can lead to debarment from this and future UPESSC exams
- Waiting until the last date (17 October) to pay the fee — server load increases near the deadline
- Not keeping a No Objection Certificate ready if already employed somewhere
|
15. Preparation Tips for UP PGT 2026
|
- Start with your Master’s degree syllabus. Ninety of the 120 questions come from your subject, so revising your PG-level notes is the most efficient use of time.
- Do not ignore General Knowledge. Thirty questions (90 marks) come from GK — dedicate at least 30-40 minutes daily to current affairs and static GK.
- Practise with negative marking in mind. Since 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer, avoid guessing blindly — attempt only when reasonably sure.
- Practise OMR filling beforehand. Download the OMR format from the commission website and practise filling it exactly as instructed to avoid mistakes on exam day.
- Revise previous UPESSC/UP Board papers if available, to understand the difficulty level and question pattern.
- Keep December 15-16 free. With exam dates already announced, plan your final 90 days of preparation around this fixed schedule.
