Within each force, vacancies are divided by category (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS) and by horizontal quotas for Ex-Servicemen (10%) and Home Guards (15%). The category-wise table in the rulebook is long, and the figures published by different websites did not add up correctly to 200 and 800, so it is not copied here. Please see the exact category-wise numbers in the official PDF. The number of posts may increase or decrease for administrative reasons.

4. Reservation rules in simple words

Category Reservation

Citizenship and gender Indian citizen, male only
Education 10th class passed under the 10+2 system, or Higher Secondary, or an equivalent exam from a recognised Board or institution

Driving Licence A valid Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence is compulsory. Candidates with only a light vehicle licence are reported to be ineligible.
Cut-off date All conditions must be fulfilled on or before 29 October 2026

The licence is the biggest eligibility gate. Before applying, check that your licence is valid on 29 October 2026, that it is the heavy vehicle type, and that the licence number is typed correctly in the form. If your licence is close to expiring, renew it first.

11. Selection process: stage by stage

Stage What Happens Nature
Stage 1 First Stage Written Exam (MCQ) Merit is made on the written exam percentile. Candidates are then shortlisted for Stage 2 (one source reports about 7 times the number of vacancies).
Stage 2 Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Trade Test The Trade Test is qualifying. PET has minimum qualifying marks.
Stage 3 Document Verification and medical check Originals are matched with your online application. Medical and character verification follow.
Final Merit List and cadre/district allocation Based on merit rank and your preference

In simple words: the written exam decides your rank. The PET, Trade Test and medical decide whether you are fit to be selected. A candidate with a good rank can still be rejected for failing the driving or fitness stages, so prepare for all of them.

12. Written exam pattern

Subject Questions Marks
General Knowledge & Logical Knowledge 40 40
Intellectual Ability & Mental Aptitude 30 30
Science & Simple Arithmetic 30 30
Total 100 100
Duration 2 hours
Marking +1 for each correct answer. No negative marking for wrong or unattempted questions.
Difficulty level Class 8 level of the MP Board of Secondary Education
Language Hindi (one source says Hindi and English)
Shifts Multiple shifts. Scores are normalised as per MPESB rules.

Since there is no negative marking, attempt every question. The detailed topic-wise syllabus is not given separately, so prepare at the Class 8 level for all three sections. With 100 questions in 120 minutes, you get about 72 seconds per question.

13. What to study for each section

Section Suggested Topics (our study suggestion, not an official syllabus)
General Knowledge & Logical Knowledge (40) Madhya Pradesh GK (districts, rivers, culture, history, major schemes), India GK, current affairs, basic civics, traffic signs and road safety, simple logical questions
Intellectual Ability & Mental Aptitude (30) Number series, odd one out, analogy, coding-decoding, direction sense, blood relations, simple puzzles
Science & Simple Arithmetic (30) Class 6–8 science (physics, chemistry, biology basics, everyday science) and arithmetic (percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, simple interest, time and distance)

Good news: the standard is Class 8. Use NCERT/MP Board Class 6–8 books for science and maths, and read daily current affairs for 20–30 minutes.

14. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Event Requirement (Male)
800 metre race Minimum 20% marks required
Long jump 3 attempts allowed
Chin-ups Minimum 6
Push-ups Minimum 12
Sit-ups Minimum 10

Reports differ on how PET marks are counted. One website says the 800 metre race is scored out of 40 marks on a time scale, while the other events have minimum limits. The exact marking scale and the qualifying rules are in the official PDF, so read that section carefully. Whatever the scale, a faster 800 metre run helps you, so train for it now.

15. Trade Test (driving test)

Nature Qualifying. You must pass it. Its marks are not added to the merit (as reported).
What is tested Your practical driving knowledge and skill
Conducted by A Selection Committee set up under the Director General of Police (as reported)

Practical tips (our suggestion): Practise driving a heavy vehicle if you can, including smooth starts, gear changes, reversing, turning and parking. Learn road signs and traffic rules. Know the basic checks (tyres, brakes, lights, oil and water levels). Stay calm and follow instructions during the test.

16. Physical standards (height and chest)

Special Armed Force (SAF)
Category (Male) Height Chest (Unexpanded) Chest (Expanded)
UR / OBC 168 cm 79 cm 84 cm
Gorkha / Garhwali / Kumaoni 157 cm 79 cm 84 cm
Maratha / SC / ST 165 cm 79 cm 84 cm
District Police Force
Category (Male) Height Chest (Unexpanded) Chest (Expanded)
UR / SC / OBC 168 cm 81 cm 86 cm
ST 160 cm 76 cm 81 cm

No relaxation in physical standards is given at any level. Check your height and chest at home before applying. For your own planning, note that SAF and District Force have different standards, so choose the force that fits your measurements. Eyesight and other medical rules are given in the official PDF; one website reports 6/9 vision in the better eye and 6/12 in the worse eye without glasses, so check this in the notification.

17. Salary and benefits

Post Constable (Driver) — Third and Executive category
Pay Scale ₹19,500 – ₹62,000
Other benefits Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, medical benefits, other allowances as admissible, and promotion opportunities
Early-years pay (reported by one website, not confirmed) MP Government rules may pay a reduced percentage of the scale minimum in the first three years. Confirm this with the department or the notification before you plan your budget.

18. Posting and service rules

Cadre / district allotment Based on your preference and merit rank
Home district Selected candidates will not be posted in their home district
Minimum service in unit At least 5 years in the allotted unit before you can ask for a transfer
Number of posts Can increase or decrease due to administrative reasons

19. Exam day rules to remember

  • Printed admit card and original photo ID are compulsory. Accepted IDs include Voter ID, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence and Passport. An e-Aadhaar is valid only if verified by UIDAI.
  • Biometric verification (Aadhaar-linked) is done at the centre. If it fails, you will not be allowed to sit for the exam.
  • Banned items: mobile phones, calculators, log tables, electronic watches and any electronic device.
  • No change of exam date, time or centre will be accepted.
  • Multiple shifts: normalisation is applied, so do not worry if your shift looks harder or easier.
  • Reach early, because gate entry is closed after the reporting time.

20. 12-week preparation plan (till 4 January 2027)

Period Focus
Before 15 October Download and read the official PDF. Check your licence validity, domicile and category certificates, photo and signature. Measure your height and chest.
15–22 October Apply early, save the receipt, and note your login details
Weeks 1–4 Written exam basics: Class 6–8 maths and science, reasoning types, MP GK. Start running 3–4 days a week (build up to 800 metres at a steady pace).
Weeks 5–8 Daily current affairs, topic tests, and speed practice. Add sprints, push-ups, chin-ups, sit-ups and long jump practice.
Weeks 9–11 Full mock tests of 100 questions in 120 minutes. Improve your 800 metre time. Practise heavy vehicle driving whenever possible.
Last week Light revision, check your admit card and ID, plan your travel, and sleep well

21. Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying without a valid Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence. This is the most common reason for rejection.
  • Wrong or old photograph. Use a photo taken within 3 months, with white background, and your name and date printed.
  • Wrong category or domicile claim. Outside MP candidates can apply only in the Unreserved category.
  • Not checking height and chest. There is no relaxation, so a shortfall means rejection at the physical stage.
  • Applying in the wrong force. SAF and District Force have different standards.
  • Ignoring the PET and driving test. The written exam gives you a rank, but these stages decide if you move ahead.
  • Waiting for the last day. Apply early and use the correction window for any error.
