  6. Download it and take a clear printout to carry on exam day.

If you cannot see your admit card yet, don’t worry — check again once the 2-day window for your own exam date begins.

4. Details to Check on Your Admit Card

Your admit card carries your Roll Number and Batch Number — both are needed to log in on the typing test computer, so a mistake here can cause real problems on exam day. Check every point carefully:

  • Candidate name and Roll Number
  • Batch Number
  • Typing test date and the exam centre allotted
  • Reporting and exam timings, where printed
  • Photograph and signature, where printed

If anything looks wrong, contact SKAU through the details on the official portal immediately — don’t wait until the exam day.

5. Typing Test Details — What You Will Face

The Clerk typing test is the first phase of selection. It is short, but both speed and accuracy count — so a fast but sloppy typist can still fail.
Feature Details
Test Mode Computer based
Language and Font English, Times New Roman
Test Duration 10 minutes
Minimum Typing Speed 30 net words per minute (NWPM)
Marks for Typing Test 15
Evaluation Done by software, based on both speed and accuracy

6. How Your Typing Speed Is Calculated

SKAU counts one word as 5 strokes (including spaces). Every error and every skipped word costs you a deduction of 5 strokes. This is why accuracy matters as much as raw speed.
Step Formula
Gross Strokes Total typed strokes
Deduction (Number of errors + Number of skipped words) × 5
Net Strokes Gross strokes − Deduction
Net Speed (WPM) Net strokes ÷ (5 × test duration in minutes)

Worked Example (from the official formula sheet): A candidate types 2,500 gross strokes with 20 errors and 10 skipped words in a 10-minute test. Deduction = (20 + 10) × 5 = 150 strokes. Net strokes = 2,500 − 150 = 2,350. Net speed = 2,350 ÷ (5 × 10) = 47 words per minute.

Useful insight: since you need only 30 NWPM to qualify, a calm, accurate typist at 35–40 WPM with very few errors is safer than someone rushing at 50 WPM with many mistakes.

7. How the Typing Test Works on the Computer

  1. Open the typing test software on the desktop and check that your keyboard and mouse work properly.
  2. Select the declaration confirming that you have checked the keyboard and mouse, then click Next.
  3. On the login window, enter your Roll Number and Batch Number exactly as printed on your admit card, plus the Batch ID that will be told to you in the exam hall.
  4. The typing window has two parts — the upper part shows the text to be typed, and the lower part is where you type.
  5. Press the Space Bar to start. The text appears and the timer starts together.
  6. When time is over, a time-up message appears and an evaluation sheet is generated.

8. Exam Hall Instructions — Do’s and Don’ts

  • Check that Caps Lock and Num Lock are in the correct state before you start.
  • Type in sync with the text highlighted in red in the upper half of the window. Content typed out of sync is counted as errors, and a skipped or missed word is also an error.
  • You can fix a mistake in a word with the Backspace key only before you press the Space Bar. Once you press Space after a word, that word cannot be corrected.
  • Not allowed: Ctrl+F4, Alt+F4, Ctrl+Esc, Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Alt+Tab, Alt+Space, Alt+Esc, the right-click key, and the Windows key with a function key.
  • Using a prohibited key or tampering with the data or software can lead to cancellation of candidature and action under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
  • Do not look at other candidates’ screens and do not talk to each other.
  • Mobile phones, pagers and other communication devices are not allowed inside the exam centre.

9. What to Carry on Typing Test Day

An official document checklist for the typing test has not been published separately. As standard practice for recruitment exams, keep these ready:

  • Printed admit card (mandatory)
  • A valid original photo ID
  • A passport-size photograph, if asked on your admit card

Always follow any extra instruction printed on your own admit card — it overrides any general checklist.

10. Typing Test Preparation Tips (Last Few Days)

  • Practise on a desktop with a standard keyboard, not a phone or laptop with a cramped keyboard — the exam uses a desktop.
  • Practise in Times New Roman, English text, in 10-minute blocks, so the real test feels familiar.
  • Aim for accuracy first, then speed — remember each error or skipped word costs you 5 strokes.
  • Practise not going back to fix words after pressing Space, since correction after Space is not allowed in the real test.
  • Do a full mock with your roll-number-and-batch-number style login practice in mind — arriving calm and prepared helps your typing more than any last-minute drill.
