Several job portals report Advertisement No. 04/2026 for one Hindi Typist post. Applications are offline, open from 24 October 2026, and must reach Trivandrum by 23 November 2026. I have not seen the official PDF, so every figure below is as reported by those portals and needs checking against the Employment News issue or indianairforce.nic.in. The written test date, syllabus and typing-test rules are not announced.
What has been announced
The Indian Air Force has advertised a single Group C civilian vacancy for Hindi Typist at Headquarters Southern Air Command (Unit), Akkulam, Trivandrum. Jobsarkariupdate.in, Karmasandhan and FreeJobAlert agree on the core facts: Advertisement No. 04/2026, one post, reserved for the OBC category, applications by post. The notice is attributed to the Employment News issue dated 24 to 30 October 2026. That explains why the application start date is two days away even though the reports appeared today.
Do not confuse this with the larger IAF Group C drive earlier this year. Advertisement No. 01/2026 covered 47 posts, including Lower Division Clerk, Hindi Typist and driver posts, and its application window closed on 1 June 2026, according to Govtjobsalert. If a page shows 47 vacancies or a June deadline, it describes the old drive, not this one.

Dates, and why a postal deadline behaves differently
The reported dates are short. The notice appears in Employment News on 24 to 30 October 2026, applications open on 24 October, and the form must reach the Trivandrum address by 23 November. The written test date is to be notified. One portal also states that applications arriving before the publication date or after the closing date will be rejected, and that the IAF takes no responsibility for postal delays.
An online deadline is about when you click. This one is about when an envelope lands on a desk in Trivandrum, which for most applicants means a long journey across states. Speed Post is usually quick, but nobody can promise a delivery day, and a form that arrives on 24 November is a rejected form however early you posted it. Working backwards is sensible: aim to post by around 14 November, keep the receipt, and track the parcel. That is my suggestion, not a rule from the notification.
The early end matters too. Do not post before 24 October. A form that arrives ahead of the publication date can be rejected, so finish the paperwork now and post it once the issue is out.
Who can apply: the OBC condition
The single post is earmarked for OBC candidates. According to the reports, General, EWS, SC and ST candidates are not eligible for it. You need an OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate in the central government format, and your caste must appear in the Central List of OBCs.
Here the usual mistake happens. A person can be OBC in their home state’s list and still not be in the Central List, or can hold a state-format certificate that central recruiters do not accept. Both lead to rejection at the scrutiny stage, and you will probably never be told why. Before you spend a day on the form, read your own certificate: the issuing authority, the format, the wording about the creamy layer, and the date. Check the notification for how recent the certificate must be, because certificates issued years ago are the ones that get questioned.
One portal’s checklist includes a PwBD certificate ‘if applicable’ and mentions standard relaxations for ex-servicemen. How those interact with a single post reserved for OBC is something only the full notification can answer, and I would not guess it.
Age limit
As reported by jobsarkariupdate.in, the age range is 18 to 25 years for General candidates, with a relaxation of three years for OBC, taking the upper limit to 28. Age is counted as on 23 November 2026, the closing date. Ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates get relaxation under central government rules, per the same portal.
Two practical points. First, if your birthday is close to either end of the range, do not rely on a portal’s table. Read the notification’s exact wording on how the upper limit is counted and what proof is accepted. Second, your date of birth must read identically on your Class 10 certificate, your Class 12 documents, your caste certificate and your ID. Age proof is normally the birth certificate or the Class 10 marksheet; whichever you send, the date has to match everywhere.
Education and typing speed
The educational requirement is a Class 12 pass from a recognised board. The skill requirement is typing at 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi on a computer. One portal gives the test standard as 10,500 key depressions per hour for English and 9,000 for Hindi over 10 minutes, with five key depressions counted as one word.
The arithmetic is worth doing, because it shows what the test asks. If the test runs 10 minutes, as reported, 10,500 per hour means about 1,750 key depressions in the window for English, and 9,000 per hour means about 1,500 for Hindi. Those are the minimums before errors are counted. A candidate who types 1,500 keys in ten minutes but makes many mistakes may not clear the bar.
Several things are not stated in what I have read: the keyboard layout for Hindi, the font, whether the passage is copied from paper or screen, and how errors are penalised. Inscript and Remington users type very differently, and the notification will say which is used. If you practise on Inscript, confirm the test accepts it. The requirement is either language, not both, so choose the one you are faster in and train it.
One post, and what that means for your chances
Nothing reported gives the number of applicants, so no one can state a selection ratio. What can be said is that with one vacancy and one category, there is no category-wise cutoff to read and no ‘general’ pool to fall back on. The selection is a contest among OBC applicants whose forms arrive correct and on time.
The reported process makes the written test the deciding stage, and the typing test a pass-or-fail gate. This changes how to split your time. Once you are comfortably above the speed bar, extra typing speed does not improve your rank. Extra marks in the written paper do. Many candidates keep drilling typing because progress is visible, then walk into the written test under-prepared. Reach a safe margin, say a few words per minute above the requirement, and then move your hours to the written subjects.
The location matters as well. The post is at a single unit in Trivandrum. If you live in the north or the Hindi belt, think about relocation before you apply. The reports do not say anything about transfer or accommodation, and I will not guess.
Salary
The post sits at Pay Level-2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission matrix. Jobsarkariupdate.in reports a basic pay of ₹19,900 per month, and Pariksha Sarathi gives the Level-2 scale as ₹19,900 to ₹63,200. Dearness allowance, house rent allowance, transport allowance and other allowances come on top under central government rules, and the amounts depend on the rates in force on the day you join and on the city class of your posting. The notification as reported does not give an in-hand figure, so anything labelled ‘in-hand salary’ on a portal is an estimate. Work out your own number from the current DA rate and the allowance rules once you have an offer, not from a headline.
Selection process
The reported stages are a written test, a typing test and document verification.
The written test is reported to cover General Intelligence, English Language, Numerical Aptitude and General Awareness, and one portal says it carries full weightage in the selection. The typing test is described as qualifying. Shortlisted candidates bring originals and copies of every annexure submitted with the application.
What is not known: the number of questions, the marks, the duration, negative marking, the test date and the test centre. For the earlier Advertisement 01/2026, GovtRank reports that the question paper was bilingual in English and Hindi, and that written-test qualifiers were shortlisted for the typing test. This cycle may follow the same pattern, but that is an assumption until the notification confirms it. One portal says the detailed syllabus has not been announced and warns against preparing from unofficial sources. That advice goes a bit far, since four named subject areas are enough to start on, but do not buy a ‘full syllabus’ PDF that claims inside knowledge.
How to apply
The process is entirely offline, and no online form is reported.
- Read the notification in Employment News, 24 to 30 October 2026, or on indianairforce.nic.in.
- Type the application in the Annexure-I format on A4 paper, in English or Hindi.
- Paste a recent passport-size photograph and self-attest it.
- Attach self-attested copies of your educational, age and caste certificates, including the OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate in the central format.
- Attach a self-addressed envelope with a ₹10 stamp, with your address typed in English or Hindi.
- On the outer envelope write: APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF HINDI TYPIST AND CATEGORY (your category).
- Address it to the Commanding Officer, Head Quarter Southern Air Command (Unit), Akkulam, Trivandrum, 695011. This is how jobsarkariupdate.in prints it. Copy the address from the notification itself.
- Send it by Speed Post and keep the receipt.
No application fee is reported for any category. If someone asks you to pay to ‘confirm’ this application, walk away.
Documents to keep ready
The checklist reported by jobsarkariupdate.in includes: the completed Annexure-I form; self-attested copies of educational certificates; age proof; the OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate in the central format; a PwBD certificate in Annexure-II if applicable; the stamped self-addressed envelope; two recent passport-size photographs; and Aadhaar or another valid photo ID.
Send copies. Originals are needed only at document verification. Make a full photocopy of the complete packet before you post it, because if you are called for the written test you will want to see exactly what you sent.
After you post: what happens next
The reports describe nothing between posting and the written test, so this part is partly inference. Units that receive postal applications generally scrutinise them first, and only forms that pass are called for the test. The stamped self-addressed envelope in the packet suggests the unit may reply by post, which is my reading rather than a stated rule. If so, the address you write on it is the address your call letter travels to. Use an address where someone is reliably home, tell your family to watch for mail from Trivandrum, and check indianairforce.nic.in and the weekly Employment News listings for announcements of the test date.
Do not assume a rejected form will be explained to you. In a single-post recruitment, the unit is unlikely to send individual rejection letters. Silence after the written test date has been announced is the only signal some candidates get.
Where applications fail
Rejections in postal recruitment are rarely about merit. They come from avoidable errors, and the reported ones are these:
- Leaving out the self-addressed envelope with the ₹10 stamp, which one portal lists as a rejection cause.
- Sending without the OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate, or with one in the wrong format.
- Missing the window, whether by posting before publication or after the close.
Add a few more from how these processes normally go wrong. Names spelt differently on the Class 10 marksheet and the caste certificate. A photograph that is not signed or attested. A form typed in the wrong layout. An address that is incomplete, so the envelope returns to you after it is too late to resend.
A verification tip as well. One portal links its ‘short notice’ from a personal Google Drive file. A PDF on someone’s Drive is not an official source, however accurate it may be. Check the Employment News issue or indianairforce.nic.in, and compare the dates and the address word for word.
A 30-day plan
This is my suggestion, built around the 23 November date.
Days 1 to 3: collect your certificates and check every name and date of birth against each other. If your OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate is old or in the wrong format, apply for a fresh one now, because that is the step you cannot rush.
Days 4 to 7: type the form, assemble the packet and photocopy it. Post it once the notification is public and you have verified the address.
Weeks 2 to 4: split your time. Spend about a third on typing, with timed ten-minute tests in your chosen language, and the rest on General Intelligence, English, Numerical Aptitude and General Awareness. Practise with previous papers from other Group C civilian recruitments to get the feel, while treating this notification’s actual pattern as the final word once it is available.
What is not yet known
- The written test date, centre and pattern.
- The detailed syllabus.
- The typing test layout, font and error rules.
- How many candidates will apply.
- Whether the address and dates in the portals match the printed notification exactly.

FAQs
I am OBC in my state but not sure about the Central List. Can I apply? Only if your caste is in the Central List of OBCs and you hold a Non-Creamy Layer certificate in the central format. Check the Central List and the format of your certificate before you apply. A state-list certificate alone is a rejection risk.
Do I need both Hindi and English typing speed? No. The reported requirement is 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi. Prepare the one you are stronger in, and confirm the layout and rules in the notification.
Is there an online application or a fee? No online form has been reported, and no fee has been reported for any category. Applications go by post to the Trivandrum address.
Is this the same recruitment as the 47-post IAF Group C drive? No. That was Advertisement No. 01/2026, which closed on 1 June 2026. This is Advertisement No. 04/2026, for one post. Different portals also report different Hindi Typist counts for the older drive, 11 on one site and 14 on another, which is a good reminder to trust only the official notice.
What if my application is delayed in the post? The reports say the IAF is not responsible for postal delays and that the form must reach by 23 November. Post early.
