The Station Master recruitment is not open yet. Portals report that a Railway Board communication of 7 October 2026 moves the post out of RRB NTPC into its own Centralised Employment Notification (CEN). The graduate NTPC notification CEN 06/2026 (applications 8 October to 6 November) does not include Station Master. The Station Master CEN, its vacancy count, dates, fee and application link have not been published.
What is confirmed and what is not
Most of what circulates today is reported from the Railway Board’s 7 October guidelines, which I could not open myself, because the RRB sites block automated access. It is therefore best treated as strong but unverified. Here is how the picture stands:
| Point | Status |
|---|---|
| Station Master recruited separately from NTPC from 2026 | Reported by several portals, citing a Railway Board communication of 7 October 2026 |
| Station Master in CEN 06/2026 (3,548 graduate posts) | Not included, as reported by multiple portals |
| Separate CEN issued | Not yet |
| Vacancy count | Unknown. One set of portals says 500+ and another says 1,200+, and both are unofficial |
| Application window, exam date, fee | Not announced |
Portals disagree on the vacancy count because nothing official exists yet. The 1,200+ figure comes from a report that RRB Ajmer’s chairman said an advertisement was likely in October, and the 500+ figure appears on other sites with no document behind it. A listing for CEN 06/2026 on at least one portal names Station Master among the posts, and other portals say plainly it is absent. The post list in the CEN itself decides, and the reports I found on balance say it is not there.
Important dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Railway Board guidelines (reported) | 7 October 2026 |
| Station Master CEN | Expected in October, per portals, but not confirmed |
| Applications | Not announced |
| CBT | Not announced (one portal guesses January 2027, which is unofficial) |
Portals have also said that RRB Ajmer will conduct the exam for all 21 RRBs for the first time. That detail rests on one chairman’s reported statement and is unconfirmed.
Vacancy: what earlier cycles show
Portals list 994 Station Master vacancies in CEN 05/2024 and 615 in CEN 06/2025. These are third-party figures and not official. The trend suggests a smaller recruitment, but no number for 2026 exists, so any seat count you see is a guess.
Eligibility, age and medical standard
The reported requirement is a bachelor’s degree in any stream. Age is reported as 20 to 33 years, including a three-year relaxation, by one portal, and as 20 to 30 years by another. The reckoning date has not been announced. Category relaxations will follow railway rules. The medical standard is reported as A-2, so have your vision checked before applying, since medical rejection after clearing the exams is a known reason for losing a seat.
Treat all of this as provisional until the CEN is out, particularly the age ceiling. The graduate NTPC notice (CEN 06/2026) reportedly runs to age 33, and a Station Master notice could use a different range.
Application fee
Not announced. A portal expects Rs. 500 for UR, EWS and OBC and Rs. 250 for SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, women, transgender, minority and EBC candidates, which copies the NTPC pattern and is not confirmed for this recruitment. Pay only through the official RRB application portal once the CEN is out.
Selection process and exam pattern
As reported, selection has four stages: a single-stage CBT, a Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), document verification and a medical examination. Under the old NTPC route there were two CBTs. The reported new pattern is a single CBT of 100 marks in 120 minutes:
| Section | Marks |
|---|---|
| Basic Science and Mathematics | 30 |
| Data Analysis and Interpretation | 30 |
| Logical Capability | 20 |
| Mental Reasoning | 20 |
| Total | 100 |
Candidates are reportedly shortlisted for the CBAT RRB-wise, up to eight times the number of vacancies, on CBT merit. Final merit is reported as 70 per cent CBT and 30 per cent CBAT, and candidates must qualify in the CBAT. Negative marking and qualifying marks are not stated in the reports and will be in the CEN.
Syllabus
The topic list below comes from a coaching portal’s reading of the guidelines and is unofficial.
- Basic Science and Mathematics: number system, HCF and LCM, ratio, percentages, profit and loss, time and work, speed and distance, algebra, progressions, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, probability, statistics, plus school-level physics such as units, density, work, power, energy, friction, heat, electricity and simple machines
- Data Analysis and Interpretation: tables, bar and pie charts, scatter plots, statistical distributions, Venn diagrams, data sufficiency and arrangement, multi-source data and conclusions
- Logical Capability: syllogisms, binary logic, clocks and calendars, assumptions, blood relations, puzzles and English reading comprehension
- Mental Reasoning: analogy, series, coding-decoding, ranking and arrangements
What this means for your preparation
The reported pattern has no General Awareness section, which was a large part of the NTPC CBTs. A candidate who has spent months on current affairs and static GK has prepared for a paper that may not exist, while the paper now rewards science, mathematics and data interpretation. If the reports are right, 60 of 100 marks sit in Basic Science, Mathematics and Data Analysis. That is a change of emphasis towards numerical skill.
I would reallocate time in this order: data interpretation practice with multi-table questions, school physics up to Class 10, arithmetic and algebra speed work, then logical puzzles and reading comprehension. With 120 minutes for 100 questions you have 72 seconds a question, which is more generous than NTPC, so accuracy matters more than raw speed. That time split is my reading of the reported pattern and not a rule.
The 30 per cent CBAT weight also deserves attention. The reports describe an aptitude test for the Station Master’s operational work, but no details are given, so wait for the CEN before buying CBAT-specific material.
How tight the competition could be
Here is an illustration using unofficial figures. One portal expects more than 25 lakh applicants. If there were 1,200 vacancies, eight shortlisted per vacancy would be 9,600 candidates, about 0.4 per cent of 25 lakh. At 500 vacancies it would be 4,000 candidates, about 0.16 per cent. Both the applicant count and the vacancy counts are expectations and not data, but the point holds: the CBT is a steep filter, and the shortlisting being RRB-wise means the board you choose sets your competition. If you are allowed to choose, compare RRB-wise vacancies in the CEN before deciding.
What to do before the CEN appears
Keep your graduation mark sheet and certificate, photo ID, a recent photo and signature scan, and category certificates ready. The notice will say which certificate dates are valid. Do not pay anyone for a “Station Master form” before an official CEN exists, and do not use a link that does not come from an RRB website (rrb.indianrailways.gov.in or rrbapply.gov.in). Pages that say “apply online” today are linking to the NTPC graduate form or to nothing.
Applying for CEN 06/2026 in the meantime
The graduate NTPC notification is open until 6 November for other posts. That decision is separate. It does not put you in the Station Master process, and the reported change means Station Master selection will run on its own CEN. If you want a graduate railway job now, CEN 06/2026 is the only live route, but check the post list yourself.
Salary and job profile
The post is reported at Pay Level 6 of the 7th Pay Commission, with an initial basic pay of Rs. 35,400, plus allowances such as dearness and house rent allowance as admissible. The Station Master supervises station operations and train movements, according to portal descriptions. The CEN will carry the formal duties and promotion route.
Cut-off
There is no cut-off for this recruitment, because the exam has not been held, and the new pattern of a single CBT is not comparable to NTPC CBT-1 or CBT-2 cut-offs. I did not find a verified past cut-off to quote.

FAQs
Is Station Master part of RRB NTPC CEN 06/2026?
Reports say no. The 3,548 graduate posts in CEN 06/2026 do not include Station Master, which is to come through a separate CEN.
How many vacancies are there?
Unknown. Portals offer 500+ and 1,200+, and neither is official.
Will General Awareness be asked?
Not in the pattern reported from the 7 October guidelines. Confirm in the CEN.
Can I apply today?
No. No Station Master application is open, and the CEN is awaited.
Do I choose an RRB?
Probably, since CBAT shortlisting is reported as RRB-wise, but the CEN will say. Earlier railway notices treated the board choice as binding.
