7. Choose your unit smartly (you can apply to only ONE)

Your Trade Units with the Most Posts (in order)
Fitter HPBP Tiruchirappalli (80), HPVP Visakhapatnam (60), BAP Ranipet (48), TP Jhansi (22), HEEP Haridwar (20), HEP Bhopal (19), SBD Bengaluru (16)
Welder HPBP Tiruchirappalli (50), HPVP Visakhapatnam (25), TP Jhansi (10); BAP and HEEP have 6 each
Turner HPEP Hyderabad (22), BAP Ranipet (10); HPVP and SBD have 6 each; HPBP and TP have none

Electrician EDN Bengaluru (20), HEP Bhopal (18), TP Jhansi (18), HEEP Haridwar (12)
Electronics Mechanic EDN Bengaluru (20) and HPVP Visakhapatnam (3) only
Foundryman HPVP Visakhapatnam (6), HEEP Haridwar (3), HEP Bhopal (2), SBD Bengaluru (1)
Region Language Note (Desirable)
Units in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Knowledge of the regional language is desirable (Telugu, Tamil or Kannada)
Other units (Haridwar, Bhopal, Jhansi) Hindi is desirable

How to use this: More posts in a unit usually means a better chance, but many candidates will also choose the biggest units. Think about your home state, language, living cost and how far you can move for work. Remember that you cannot change the unit after submitting.

8. Eligibility: educational qualification

Education Class 10 + National Trade Certificate (NTC / ITI) + National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in the respective trade
Minimum marks — General / OBC 60% in both NTC/ITI and NAC
Minimum marks — SC / ST 55% in both NTC/ITI and NAC
Desirable Regional language for units in AP, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka; Hindi for other units
Term Simple Meaning
NTC / ITI The trade certificate you get after passing the All India Trade Test of your ITI course
NAC The certificate you get after completing apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act and passing the apprenticeship trade test. It is a separate certificate from your ITI certificate.
Respective trade The trade of your NTC and NAC should match the Artisan trade you apply for. The equivalent trades will be listed in the detailed notification.
60% in both You need the minimum percentage in the ITI exam and also in the NAC exam. One does not make up for the other.

Quick maths: if your ITI total is 900 marks, 60% means at least 540 marks. For SC/ST, 55% means at least 495 marks. Use your own total marks to check. This is a simple example, not an official rule.

9. Age limit (as on 1 October 2026)

Category Upper Age Limit
General / EWS 27 years
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) 30 years
SC / ST 32 years
PwD / Ex-Servicemen Relaxation as per Government rules
Relevant work experience Up to 7 years’ relaxation, if you have the experience in the prescribed format

The lower age limit and the exact way of counting experience will be in the detailed notification. A website reports the minimum age as 18 years, but this is not confirmed in the short notice.

10. Application fee (Expected)

Category Exam Fee Processing Fee Total
UR / EWS / OBC ₹600 ₹400 + GST ₹1,072
SC / ST / PwD / Ex-Servicemen Nil ₹400 + GST ₹472

The short notice does not give the fee. The figures above are an “expected” fee reported by an education website from BHEL’s earlier cycle. Please confirm the amount in the detailed notification.

  1. Visit careers.bhel.in and open the Artisan Recruitment – 2027 (Advt. 01/2026) detailed notification.
  2. Read the instructions, including the unit-wise vacancy for your trade.
  3. Register with your own email ID and mobile number once the link is active.
  4. Fill in your personal, education (Class 10, ITI/NTC, NAC) and category details.
  5. Choose only one unit. One candidate can apply against the vacancies of only one unit.
  6. Upload your photograph, signature and documents.

  8. Submit the form and save a printout or PDF.

Special note: Dependants of deceased BHEL employees can check the “Compassionate Consideration” link on careers.bhel.in.

Document Tip
Class 10 certificate and marksheet Used for date of birth and education
ITI (NTC) certificate and marksheets Check the trade name and your total percentage

PwBD / Ex-Servicemen certificate Only if applicable
Work experience certificate For the age relaxation, in the prescribed format, if you have relevant experience

13. Selection process

Stage What to Know
1. Computer Based Test (CBT) Held on the same day for all units, tentatively in December 2026

4. Final selection Unit-wise merit and vacancy. Details will be in the detailed notification.

Because the CBT is on one day for all units, you cannot prepare “for one unit” separately. Prepare once for your trade.

14. CBT exam pattern (Expected, as in the earlier cycle)

Section Questions Marks
Trade-related questions (your trade) 70 70
Engineering drawing and workshop calculation 30 30

17. Preparation plan until the December CBT

Weeks 4–5 Engineering drawing and workshop calculation: mensuration, percentage, ratio, trigonometry basics, reading drawings and symbols. Reasoning: 20 minutes daily.

The exam date is tentative, so adjust this plan when BHEL announces the final schedule.

18. Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying without NAC. ITI alone is not enough. The notice asks for ITI (NTC) and NAC.
  • Below the minimum percentage. You need 60% (55% SC/ST) in both ITI and NAC.
  • Trade mismatch. Apply in the Artisan trade that matches your NTC/NAC trade.
  • Applying to more than one unit. Only one unit is allowed.
  • Counting age on the wrong date. Age is counted on 1 October 2026.
  • Using unconfirmed information. Do not pay the fee before reading the detailed notification.
  • Trusting agents. Apply only through careers.bhel.in.
  • Ignoring the language note. Some units prefer knowledge of the regional language.
