Computer diploma A one-year Computer Application diploma from an institution recognised by the M.P. Government

Tip: If you are unsure whether your certificate-issuing board or institute is recognised, check the notification or ask the High Court helpdesk before paying the fee, because the fee is not refundable.

Category Maximum Age
Minimum age (all) 18 years
Male applicants of M.P. and other states (Unreserved) 40 years
Male applicants of M.P. (EWS) 40 years
Male and female applicants of M.P. (OBC / SC / ST) 45 years
Employees of M.P. Government / Corporation / Board / Autonomous institutions, and Home Guards 45 years
All female and all Divyang applicants of M.P. and other states 45 years
Special Case Rule

High Court / District Court contract staff Those serving (or who served) on contract posts equal to or higher than the vacant post for at least 5 years get age relaxation equal to their contract service, provided age does not exceed 55 years

Age is counted as on 01.01.2026. Some websites show a simpler age table, so please match your category with the official notification before applying.

9. Can candidates from other states apply?

Unreserved category Yes. Candidates of M.P. and of other states can apply in the Unreserved category.
OBC / SC / ST / EWS benefits The notification gives these category fee benefits only to M.P. natives. Candidates from other states are charged the Unreserved fee.

10. Application fee and portal charge

Category Exam Fee Portal & Other Fee Total
Unreserved and/or applicants from outside M.P. ₹200 ₹743.40 ₹943.40
OBC, SC, ST, EWS (only M.P. natives) ₹0 ₹743.40 ₹743.40
All Divyang ₹0 ₹743.40 ₹743.40

The portal fee is charged to everyone, even those with exam fee exemption. Fee is paid online by Debit Card or Internet Banking. There is no refund or adjustment of fee. The fee can change if circumstances change. If money is cut but the form shows “Payment Status – Fail”, the status may update in 48 to 72 hours, so do not pay twice in a hurry and do not leave payment for the last day.

⚠ Second payment for the skill test: Candidates who qualify for the shorthand skill test must pay another ₹743.40 (portal fee) online to the service provider through a link on the High Court website. Those who do not pay will be treated as unwilling and their candidature will be cancelled. Keep this extra amount in mind.

11. Selection process: two stages

Stage What It Is Purpose
Stage 1 Online Preliminary Exam (100 marks, MCQ) Only for screening. Its marks are not counted in the final result.
Stage 2 Hindi / English Shorthand Skill Test (100 marks) Hindi shorthand for Stenographer posts, English shorthand for Assistant Grade-III (English Knowing)

What this means for you: The preliminary exam only decides whether you get a place in the skill test. Your skill test performance is what finally matters, so do not delay shorthand practice until the prelims result.

12. Online preliminary exam pattern

Subject Questions Marks Medium
G.K. + G.S., including G.K. of M.P. 20 20 Hindi & English
Maths + Logical Reasoning 20 20 Hindi & English
General Hindi 20 20 Hindi
English Knowledge 20 20 English
Computer Knowledge 20 20 English
Total 100 100 —

The exam is common for all four posts. It is multiple-choice, 1 mark per question, and the time is 120 minutes (2 hours), which is about 72 seconds per question. The sources I checked do not mention negative marking. Please confirm in the official notification before you plan to guess answers.

13. Preliminary result and shortlisting for skill test

Stenographer Grade-II, Grade-III and Grade-III (Court Manager Staff) Result is made by merit of marks. Candidates in the merit of each category in the ratio of 1:5 (about 5 candidates per post, plus all candidates with the same cut-off marks even if this crosses 1:5) are called for the Hindi Shorthand Skill Test. The skill test for these posts is held together.
Assistant Grade-III (English Knowing) Same 1:5 rule per category. Qualified candidates are called for the English Shorthand Skill Test.

Example for understanding only: for 30 posts of Assistant Grade-III, roughly 150 candidates may be called for the skill test, and a few more if there is a tie at the cut-off marks.

14. Shorthand skill test pattern

Post Dictation Transcription Time Marks
Stenographer Grade-II, Grade-III, Grade-III (Court Manager Staff) About 400 words of Hindi dictation in 5 minutes 30 minutes 100
Assistant Grade-III (English Knowing) About 400 words of English dictation in 5 minutes 30 minutes 100
Category Minimum Qualifying Marks
General & OBC 55%
SC 45%
ST & Divyang 40%
EWS 49.5%

In case of equal marks, the older candidate gets preference.

15. Skill test rules to remember

Notebook rule A notebook is given for taking dictation. If you write the dictation in long hand in that notebook, full marks are deducted. Write only in shorthand.
Mock dictation A mock dictation is given before the real one so that every candidate can check that the sound is clear
Discipline Making noise or disturbance during dictation, disturbing others during transcription/typing, or arguing without reason leads to removal from the hall and cancellation of candidature
Total time 5 minutes dictation + 30 minutes transcription = about 35 minutes

18. Correction window: use it wisely

When 30 October 2026 (12:00 PM) to 1 November 2026 (5:00 PM)
What can be corrected Only entries you made while filling the Application form
What cannot be corrected Entries made during Registration (such as name, mobile or email). Check them carefully on day one.

19. Preparation plan for prelims and skill test

Area How to Prepare
G.K. + G.S. (20) Read basic general studies and current affairs. Give extra time to Madhya Pradesh GK: history, geography, culture, districts, rivers, schemes and major personalities.
Maths + Reasoning (20) Revise percentage, ratio, average, profit-loss, time-work, number series, coding-decoding, blood relations and puzzles. Practise speed.
General Hindi (20) Grammar, vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, sentence correction and comprehension
English (20) Grammar, vocabulary, error spotting, fill in the blanks and reading comprehension
Computer (20) Computer basics, MS Office, keyboard shortcuts, internet, email and basic security. Your CPCT preparation will help a lot here.
Shorthand (skill test) Practise dictation daily at a speed a little above your required WPM (for example 100 WPM practice for an 80 WPM post). Transcribe within time, and check spelling, punctuation and format. Practise writing only in shorthand, never in long hand.
Typing Practise typing the transcription fast and accurately in Hindi or English, since 30 minutes are given to convert 400 words

Because the prelim is just a screening test with a 1:5 shortlisting, a safe score matters more than a perfect one. Divide your time evenly: 120 minutes for 5 subjects means about 24 minutes per subject.

20. Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying without the required certificates. You need CPCT, shorthand at the required WPM and the computer diploma. Having one is not enough.
  • Wrong registration details. Registration entries cannot be fixed in the edit window.
  • Waiting for the last day. Payment failures can take 48 to 72 hours to update.
  • Ignoring the second ₹743.40 payment. Skipping it cancels your candidature for the skill test.
  • Writing dictation in long hand. It leads to full marks being deducted.
  • Not checking the website. The prelim date is not announced yet. Visit mphc.gov.in regularly.
