Error in name, photo, signature or category Email the Board at punctual.sssb@punjab.gov.in with proof (ID, certificate, application copy) before exam day
What to write in your email Full name, application number, post (Clerk, Advt. 02/2026), the exact mistake, and attached proof documents

Send the email as early as possible. Keep a screenshot of the sent mail and carry your proof documents to the centre.

8. What to carry and what to leave at home

Carry Do Not Carry
• Printed admit card (a phone copy is generally not accepted)
• One original valid photo ID: Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, Passport or Driving Licence
• Two recent passport-size photographs
• Blue or black ballpoint pens (carry a spare)
• Water bottle (transparent) if allowed at your centre
• Mobile phone, smartwatch, calculator or any electronic device
• Study material, notes or loose papers
• Bags and metal accessories
• Heavy clothing with large buttons or many pockets

Rules can differ slightly by centre. Follow what is printed on your admit card first. Keep the admit card safe after the exam because it may be needed for the typing test and document verification.

9. Exam pattern and marking scheme

Part Subject Questions Marks Nature and Marking
Part-A Punjabi Language (Matriculation level) 50 50 Qualifying only. You need at least 50% (25 out of 50). No negative marking. Marks are not added to merit.
Part-B General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Punjab History & Culture, Logical Reasoning & Mental Ability, Punjabi, English, ICT 100 100 Merit-based. 1 mark for each right answer. ¼ mark (0.25) cut for each wrong answer.
Total Both parts together 150 150 Total time: 2 hours 30 minutes

Your final rank depends only on Part-B marks. But if you fail Part-A, your Part-B is not counted at all. So both parts matter.

10. How negative marking works — with an example

Candidate Attempted Correct Wrong Part-B Score
A (careful) 80 70 10 70 − (10 × 0.25) = 67.5
B (guesses a lot) 100 70 30 70 − (30 × 0.25) = 62.5
C (very careful) 65 60 5 60 − (5 × 0.25) = 58.75

Simple rule: one wrong answer cancels out a quarter of one right answer. If you can remove two options and are left with a 50-50 choice, a guess is usually worth it. If you have no idea, leave it blank in Part-B. Part-A has no negative marking, so attempt all 50 questions there.

11. Smart time plan for 2 hours 30 minutes

This plan is only a suggestion to help you, not an official rule. You can follow your own order if the paper allows it.
Section Suggested Time Advice
Part-A: Punjabi (50 Q) About 30–35 min You only need 25 marks. Answer the easy grammar and vocabulary questions first and attempt all of them, since there is no negative marking.
Part-B: Sure-shot questions About 60–65 min First go through English, ICT, reasoning and GK that you know well. Skip anything that takes more than a minute.
Part-B: Second round About 25–30 min Come back to skipped questions. Guess only when you can cut at least two options.
OMR check Last 10–15 min Check that every answer is marked in the right row and number. Make sure no circle is half-filled and nothing is marked twice.

12. OMR sheet tips (if your paper is pen-and-paper)

  • Use only the pen allowed at the centre, usually a blue or black ballpoint pen.
  • Fill the roll number, set code and personal details very carefully. A wrong entry here can cause serious trouble.
  • Darken the circle fully. Do not tick, cross or half-fill it.
  • Do not erase or overwrite. Mark the answer only when you are sure.
  • Do not fold or crumple the sheet and do not write anything extra on it.
  • Match the question number with the OMR row every few questions so one slip does not shift all your answers.

13. Typing test — the next hurdle after the written exam

Language Required Speed
English 30 words per minute
Punjabi 30 words per minute, in the Unicode-compliant font Raavi

The typing test is qualifying only: you must pass it, but its marks are not added to the merit list. Many candidates find Punjabi typing in Raavi harder than English typing, so start practice now, even for 20–30 minutes a day, instead of waiting for the result.

14. How the final selection works

Step What Happens Nature
1 Written Exam Part-A (Punjabi) Qualifying, minimum 50%
2 Written Exam Part-B Merit-based, 100 marks
3 Typing Test (English and Punjabi) Qualifying
4 Final Merit List Common merit list on Part-B marks, only for candidates who pass Part-A and the typing test
Tie-break Order If two or more candidates have equal marks
1st The older candidate (by date of birth) gets preference
2nd If date of birth is also the same, higher percentage in the required educational qualification
3rd If still tied, higher matriculation marks

15. Eligibility, age limit, fee and salary (quick recap)

Education Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university
Computer Qualification 120-hour computer course (Office Productivity / DTP) from a government-recognised or ISO 9001 certified institute, or DOEACC ‘O’ Level certificate

Age relaxation is given as per Punjab Government rules. For exact conditions, read the official Advertisement No. 02/2026 on sssb.punjab.gov.in.

16. Last-minute checklist before 11 October

When What to Do
Today Download the admit card, take 2–3 printouts, check all details, and save a PDF copy in your phone and email
Next 2–3 days Revise 10th-level Punjabi grammar (for the 25 qualifying marks), Punjab GK, Punjab history and culture, current affairs, reasoning, basic English and computer basics. Solve 2–3 full-length mock tests in 2 hours 30 minutes.
One day before Visit or at least locate the exam centre, plan your travel and reach time, pack your bag (admit card, ID, photos, pens) and sleep early. Avoid starting new topics.
Exam morning Eat a light meal, leave early to avoid traffic (it is a Sunday, so buses and trains may be less frequent), and reach before the reporting time
Inside the hall Read the instructions fully, fill OMR details carefully, attempt Part-A fully, and avoid blind guessing in Part-B

17. Common mistakes to avoid on exam day

  • Going without a printout. A phone copy is generally not accepted.
  • Carrying an ID that does not match. The name on the ID should be the same as on the admit card.
  • Reaching late. Entry is usually closed after the reporting time. Do not take the risk.
  • Taking a phone or smartwatch inside. Even a switched-off device can create trouble.
  • Spending too long on one question. Move on and come back if time is left.
  • Blind guessing in Part-B. Wrong answers cost ¼ mark each.
  • Ignoring Part-A. Even a top Part-B score is useless if you do not reach 25 out of 50 in Punjabi.
